Hidden gems & power features
Things that are easy to miss but worth knowing:
- Member Match ranks people by how many of your tagged interests they share — filter to Top interests only, or to things you actively do vs. just watch.
- "✓ I'm Here Now" on the Dashboard broadcasts where you are right now — perfect for impromptu meetups without creating a full event.
- Tagging an interest Not Interested on Interests hides it from recommendations — a fast way to clean up what you see.
- In Chat, the ⋯ menu lets you pin, reply, save, or delete any message — plus edit or unsend your own. Pinned messages stay at the top of the thread; the 🔔 Notify action pushes an alert to a contact who's offline.
- Every event supports three reminders (set on Event Details) that fire automatically by push/email at the times you pick.
- Popular Interests isn't just a list — tap any interest to drop into a live chat room with everyone who shares it.
- Chat Text Replace auto-expands shorthand as you send (e.g.
omw=on my way) — in Chat and LiveChat alike.
- LiveChat is a fast, SMS-style 1:1 view of any conversation — open a Chat and tap LIVE to text someone in real time, with typing indicators, read receipts, and an I'm on LiveChat ping.
- Mute reminders without turning them off: set Quiet Hours and a 12-hour Do Not Disturb snooze on Notifications.
- Favorite people in your Contact List and they show up first in every member dropdown.
Install qMEET on your phone
qMEET is a Progressive Web App (PWA) — install it like a native app, no app store needed:
- iPhone / iPad (Safari): tap Share, then Add to Home Screen.
- Android (Chrome): tap the menu (⋮), then Install app or Add to Home screen.
- Desktop (Chrome / Edge): click the install icon in the address bar.
Installed, qMEET runs in its own window and works offline for pages you've already opened — with no background battery drain (it's only active when you open it).
Tips for every page
Each page on the site has its own ⓘ Tips button. Here are all of those tips in one place, grouped by area — tap a group to open it, or search above to jump to a page.
Your hub
Dashboard
- 📍 Open Check-in to broadcast where you are right now — a great way to spark an impromptu meetup without setting up a full event. After 2 hours with no confirmation it clears itself automatically.
- ⏱ Each card's time-window dropdown (e.g. “Next 2 weeks” for events, “Active in 24 hours” for contacts) sticks across sessions — tune each one to your pace and forget it.
- 🗂 Cards collapse and reopen independently — click any title bar to toggle. Your open/closed layout is remembered per card. Empty cards auto-collapse so the dashboard never feels like a wall of nothing.
- ⚡ The chips under the greeting (Find Events, Find Groups, Member Search, Chat, Add Event, Invite) are one-tap shortcuts to the main areas.
- Suggested ToDo's nudges — invite friends, add contacts, RSVP, finish your profile — auto-disappear as you complete them. Clicking a nudge that mentions a card (e.g. “Your Events”) jumps to and opens that card.
- ⌨️ On a computer, press ? for all keyboard shortcuts; press g then a letter to jump around (e.g. g c = Chat).
- Pop-up toasts at the top close on any click, not just the ×.
- Use the ← Back button to the left of the page title instead of your browser's Back button, and tap the ⓘ icon any time to reopen these tips.
- 📲 Not using the qMEET app? Install it from your browser for a faster, full-screen experience that still works offline.
- 💻 On a computer? Install qMEET from your browser's address bar (look for the install icon) for one-tap access.
- 🔔 Turn on notifications so urgent chats and event reminders reach you even when qMEET is closed.
Getting-Started Checklist
- 🔒 Your manual check-offs are saved on this device only — they won't follow you to another phone or computer. Auto-completed boxes (locked) are always re-detected from your account.
- ✅ Most boxes check themselves off as you do things on qMEET — those are locked; the rest you tick yourself when you're ready.
- 📊 Nothing here is required — the progress bar is just a guide to help you get the most out of qMEET. Tap any item's action button to jump straight there.
- Reset My Checks clears only the boxes you ticked yourself — auto-completed ones stay checked.
Walkthrough
- ☰ On a long page like this, the floating On this page menu jumps between sections instantly — especially handy on a phone where scrolling through cards takes a while.
- 💡 The Good to Know section (collapsed, near the bottom) has the site-wide shortcuts most people miss — the scroll-progress bar, keyboard nav (g c for Chat, etc.), and toast behavior.
- 🧭 Quickest start: skim the two open sections, then tap Make It Yours and Good to Know to expand them — the Install section is optional if you're on desktop.
- For a page-by-page feature reference, head to Tips. You can revisit this Walkthrough any time from More → Walkthrough.
About
- 🚀 No need to read it all — tap Create a Free Account to sign up, or browse events right now without an account.
- ☰ On a phone, use the floating On this page menu to jump straight to any section — Three Promises, Who It's For, and so on — without scrolling through everything.
- 🧭 Already signed up? The Walkthrough is the better next stop — it shows how everything fits together and where to start.
- 💬 At the bottom of Why We Built It there's a direct link to submit a feature idea — we often turn those around the same day.
Joining qMEET
Sign up — Step 1 (your name)
- Only First Name is required here; Last Name is optional but helps friends find you by name in search.
- 🔒 Untick It's OK to show my last name to keep it private — we never sell or share any of your info.
- 🧭 The whole sign-up takes about a minute — eight short steps, and you can edit anything later from your profile.
- Tap the Why? link to see why a field is useful.
Sign up — Step 2 (birthday)
- 🔒 Your exact birthday is never shown to anyone — only your age, and only if you leave It's OK to show my age ticked.
- Untick that box to hide your age publicly while still letting age-filtered events match you behind the scenes.
- 🎂 Birthday is optional — skip it if you prefer, but planners use age ranges to tailor events and groups.
Sign up — Step 3 (gender)
- A selection is required — pick Prefer not to say if you'd rather not share it.
- 🔒 You can control whether your gender shows publicly after joining from Preferences.
- Gender helps filter gender-specific events and groups, and gives members a quick sense of who's in one.
Sign up — Step 4 (phone)
- 📱 Phone is optional — if you entered an email on the next step, you can skip this entirely. But adding a number enables SMS reminders for chats and event updates.
- If you enter a number, also pick your Phone Service (your carrier's text gateway) so we can reach you — choose Other if yours isn't listed.
- If this number is already on a qMEET account, you'll see a warning as soon as you move to the next field.
- 🔒 We never spam, sell, or share your number.
Sign up — Step 5 (email)
- 📧 You need either an email or a phone number — email is optional only if you entered a phone on the previous step.
- If this address is already on a qMEET account, you'll see a warning as soon as you move to the next field.
- Your email is used for chat notifications, event updates, and recovering your account if you forget your login.
- 🔒 We never spam, sell, or share your address.
Sign up — Step 6 (location)
- 📍 qMEET doesn't use GPS — this is how it finds events near you and lets friends find you by location.
- Pick Canada and the State dropdown switches to a free-text Province/Territory field automatically.
- 🔒 Zip / Postal Code is optional and only used for finer location matching — it's never shown publicly.
- City is also optional; the more you fill in, the better your local event matches will be.
Sign up — Step 7 (display name)
- 👤 This is the only name other members see — a public handle like a screenname. It must be unique across all members.
- Your private username comes next on the final step and is never shown to others; only this display name is public.
- We've pre-filled a suggestion from your name — change it freely (up to 25 characters; letters, numbers, and
- . @ & _).
Sign up — Step 8 (username & password)
- 🔑 Password: at least 8 characters (10+ recommended) mixing uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and/or symbols — a short memorable phrase works great.
- 👤 Username: at least 4 characters with 3+ unique ones; avoid sequences like
123 or abc, and it can't appear inside your password. - 👁 Tap the eye icon to reveal your password and double-check it before finishing — there's no confirm field.
- You can change your username and password any time from Update Credentials in the menu.
