What you'll see 🌲 Old growth🏛️ Historic site

General Grant was designated the Nation's Christmas Tree by President Coolidge in 1926 and a national shrine to the war dead in 1956 - the only living object so designated. The loop also passes the Fallen Monarch, a hollow log you can walk through, and the 1872 Gamlin Cabin.

Tips
Fully paved and wheelchair accessible. The Fallen Monarch has been used as a hotel, a saloon and a cavalry stable. A Christmas ceremony is still held at the tree every December.
