👥 Adding Is One-Way — And They Can See It
Adding someone puts them on your list only. It does not add you to theirs.
It isn't private, though: you show up straight away in their
👋 People Who Added You card, exactly the way they show up in yours.
What you can see of a contact — 🟢 online, last active, 📍 place and
check-in photos — follows their privacy settings, not whether you added them.
Anyone who set those to "Only Contacts" stays blank until you've both added
each other. That's usually all an empty-looking row means.
★ Favorites, Nicknames & Labels
★ Favorite reaches past this page: favorites pin to the top of the
chat recipient list too, above a divider, and a favorite's name shows in
magenta in chat.
✎ Nickname (behind ⋯) is private to you and replaces that person's name
everywhere you see them, chat included — 25 characters. Their real name still
shows in brackets beside it, so a nickname can never disguise who someone is.
🏷 Labels (behind ⋯) are your own private tags — "Hiking", "Work". Up to
8 per person, and every label you use becomes its own filter chip at the top of the list.
👁 Hide, Mute, Block Or Remove
👁 Presence Shown / Hidden (⋯) hides your status, place,
"Here Until" and check-in photos from that one contact. You can still chat as normal.
🔔 Time-Sensitive Alerts On / Off (⋯) stops push and reminder emails for that
contact's time-sensitive messages. The messages still arrive and still badge — you just
aren't chased about them.
⚠ × Remove deletes your row and nothing else. If they had added
you, they reappear immediately in 👋 People Who Added You. To make someone
actually go away, use 🚫 Block — it hides them from chat both ways and moves them to
the Blocked card, reversible there. Blocking also clears their ★, and unblocking
doesn't bring it back.
💡 Tips
- ⋯ ✉ Invite… invites that contact to one of your upcoming events or groups
without leaving the page.
- The 🔍 filter box matches your labels as well as name and city, and
stacks with every chip you've turned on.
- Your Sort choice is remembered on this device; the chips reset each visit.
Any sort other than Favorites first hides the ★ Favorites / All Contacts headings.
- 🗺 Show them on a Map is a snapshot from page load — adds, blocks and removals
show up after a reload.
- Press and hold a contact's chip in the notification bar at the top of any
page (or right-click it, or double-click its 📍 pin) for
My Contacts' Check-ins — the mutual contacts who are checked in at a place
right now, with the time and where. A plain tap opens their chat instead.
- Search finds people by their backup email or phone too, not just their main one.
