Season: Summer (May - mid-November) SR 123 is open during the summer only, typically from May to mid-November. It is possible for the higher elevations of the trail to be snow-covered in the shoulder seasons. The road to access Laughingwater Creek Trailhead, SR 123, closes in the winter from the north via SR 410 at Chinook Pass and to the south at the SR 123 entrance near Ohanapecosh. The Laughingwater Creek Trailhead is located 2.7 miles north of the southeast entrance to the park on SR 123. Coming from the south, the trailhead is on the right side to the east and a turn out with parking is on the left on the west side of the road. It is 1.6 miles north of the turn off for Ohanapecosh Campground and 0.2 miles south of the Stevens Canyon Entrance. From this trailhead, visitors can hike the Laughingwater Creek Trail , approximately 12 miles roundtrip. The Pacific Crest Trail is 7.3 miles from this trailhead. Visitors can also connect to the Silver Falls Trail from this trailhead on the west side of SR 123 from the parking area. It is approximately 0.1 mile to the Silver Falls trail from this location. Also known as the Three Lakes Trail, this trail has a gentle grade as it follows Laughingwater Creek through the forest. Stop to enjoy the loud and soothing sound of the creek from its bank before the trail ascends steeply to the top of the ridge. Enjoy three mountain lakes and make your way past the third lake for splendid views of Mount Rainier. There is a backcountry camp at Three Lakes and the historic Three Lakes Patrol Cabin . Wilderness permits are required for all overnight stays in the backcountry. Pets are not allowed on trails at Mount Rainier National Park. This trailhead is not accessible by vehicles during the winter months. The nearest restrooms are located 0.2 miles north on SR 123 at the Grove of the Patriarchs trailhead near the Stevens Canyon Entrance.

Tips
Twelve miles for a modest payoff, which is why nobody is on it. Connects to the Pacific Crest Trail.
