SurfaceRiver bed - boulders, gravel and current
Best seasonThe Narrows may close when the river is flowing over 140 cubic feet per second. This frequently occurs in monsoon season (late summer) and during spring runoff. Always check the weather and current...
DogsNot allowed
AccessibilityThe river is the trail. River rocks are slippery and uneven. Water depth is variable from ankle to chest height. The route is in shade for most of the day, even in summer.
What you'll see 🌄 Big views🌊 River or creek

After the mile-long paved Riverside Walk the trail simply ends at the water and you walk up the river. Sixty percent of the route is in the current. Most people turn round at Big Springs, nine and a half miles round trip; Wall Street, the narrowest section, is the highlight.

Tips
Check the flow rate and the flash flood potential every single morning - the park closes it above 150 cubic feet per second and floods here are lethal. Rent neoprene socks, canyoneering boots and a walking stick in Springdale. Toxic cyanobacteria blooms occur - do not drink or filter this water, and keep it out of your mouth.
