What you'll see 🌄 Big views🌊 River or creek🏛️ Historic site🎒 Backpacking

The most used trail in the canyon, following a natural break in the cliffs that Indigenous people, miners and early tourists all used. Seasonal water and toilets at the 1.5-Mile and 3-Mile Resthouses and Havasupai Gardens make it the safest way to walk below the rim. Common turnarounds: 1.5-Mile Resthouse (3 miles round trip, 1,120 feet), 3-Mile Resthouse (6 miles, 2,120 feet), Havasupai Gardens (9 miles, 3,040 feet) and Plateau Point (12.2 miles, 3,120 feet).

Tips
Going down is optional; coming up is mandatory, and it takes roughly twice as long. The park advises against trying to reach the river and return in one day. Mules have absolute right of way - step to the inside wall and stand still. Check the current water station status before you go, as pipeline breaks are frequent.
