What you'll see ⛰️ Summit🌄 Big views🌊 River or creek🦌 Wildlife🎒 Backpacking

Gates of the Arctic is the second largest national park in the country and has no maintained trail of any kind, no road, no campground and no facility inside its boundary. Every visit begins with a flight or a long walk in from the Dalton Highway, and every route is one you navigate yourself.

Tips
Attend the free backcountry orientation at Bettles, Coldfoot or Anaktuvuk Pass before you go. Walking tussock tundra averages about one mile an hour - plan on half the daily distance you would manage on a trail.
