What you'll see 🌄 Big views🦌 Wildlife🏛️ Historic site

The moat wall runs right around Fort Jefferson, a hexagonal 19th-century coastal fort built of sixteen million bricks on a coral key seventy miles from Key West. The walk is at sea level with clear water on both sides, and the moat itself holds fish, rays and the occasional nurse shark.

Tips
Do it at sunset or first thing before the day boat crowds arrive. There is no shade anywhere on the wall and no railing on the seaward side. The moat is prime snorkelling as well as walking.
