The Brackenridge Nature Trail is an accessible loop trail located directly behind Gulf Islands National Seashore Headquarters on Gulf Breeze Parkway. At the trailhead, there is a 30 foot wide wooden deck and benches that provide picturesque views of the Santa Rosa Sound and the Pensacola Bay Bridge. The boardwalk loop traverses through coastal forest and past several waysides detailing wildlife found in the area. Bird calls can be heard year round, if you are patient enough to stop and listen. The fully accessible portion of the trail is 0.3 miles total. Visitors may choose to extend their hike and complete a second loop found directly off the accessible boardwalk, adding 0.5 miles to make the trail a figure-8. For an even further extension, visitors may connect the Brackenridge figure-8 loop to the Fishing Trail. There is also an overlook along the trail. Visitors may park in the lot directly in front of the headquarters building in Naval Live Oaks. Though there is no fee for entry, gates to this area open at at 8 am and close at sunset. Duration: 15-30 minutes
