Dick Proenneke built a log cabin here by hand in 1968 with a few hand tools and lived in it alone for thirty years; his films and journals became One Man's Wilderness. The cabin is preserved and open in summer. There are no built trails - you walk the open tundra and lake shore.

Tips
Floatplane access only, chartered from Port Alsworth or Anchorage. The cabin is staffed by a volunteer in summer. Tundra walking is slower than it looks.
