What you'll see 💧 Waterfall🌄 Big views🌊 River or creek

In 1912 Novarupta buried this valley in up to 700 feet of ash. For years afterwards thousands of fumaroles steamed from the surface, which gave the valley its name. The route drops off Three Forks Overlook to Ukak Falls, where the river has cut a slot straight through the ash.

Tips
Reached on the daily bus from Brooks Camp, 23 miles each way on a rough road. The descent is on loose ash that is far harder to climb back up. There is no marked trail past the overlook and the weather turns fast - the bus will not wait.
