What you'll see ⛰️ Summit🌄 Big views

Officially renamed Kuwohi in 2024, restoring the Cherokee name meaning "mulberry place". At 6,643 feet it is the highest point in the park, on the Appalachian Trail, with a 1959 spiral concrete observation tower on top.

Tips
The half mile is paved but very steep - steeper than most people expect. The access road closes from 1 December to 31 March. The spruce-fir forest around it is dying from balsam woolly adelgid, which is why so many trees are grey.
