What you'll see 🌄 Big views

Named for Kendall Bumpass, who broke through the crust here in 1865 and lost a leg to the boiling mud. A boardwalk now keeps visitors above the thin ground, over pools at up to 322F.

Tips
Never step off the boardwalk - the crust is thin and the water is above boiling point. Snow usually blocks this trail until July. The car park fills by mid-morning.
