Established on 12 October 2022, the 53,804-acre Camp Hale-Continental Divide National Monument protects the high Colorado valley where the Army's 10th Mountain Division trained for winter warfare in World War II. Veterans of the division went on to found much of the American ski industry. The monument spans the Tenmile and Sawatch ranges either side of the Continental Divide, and takes in the concrete foundations of the wartime cantonment near Red Cliff.
