A Visitor Information Station at the Proctor parking area, run by Friends of Madera Canyon volunteers, is usually open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays year-round. Hours are typically 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. from April through September and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. from October through March. The Friends of Madera Canyon , a volunteer partner organization, helps the US Forest Service maintain recreation sites in the Canyon and provides brochures and educational programs. A paved road runs the length of Madera Canyon providing access to creekside picnic areas and many hiking trails make this a perfect year-round recreation destination.
