The Department of Mathematical Sciences invites you to attend Mentor Sessions through the State of Michigan's King-Chavez-Parks Initiative featuring Dr. Yingda Cheng. Join us in the Math Department Lounge, Fisher Hall 323, to meet with Dr. Cheng to discuss her academic journey, her research, her focused interests, or any questions you may have for her.

Biography: Dr. Cheng is a professor in the Department of Mathematics at Virginia Tech, and affiliated faculty with the Computational Modeling and Data Analytics program at Virginia Tech. Her areas of research are scientific computing, applied mathematics, and data-driven modeling & computation. Her interests focus on using modern data-driven, reduced order modeling and classical numerical analysis as tools to simulate highly complex and high dimensional multi-scale phenomena arising from science and engineering. Dr. Cheng received her B.S. degree from the University of Science and Technology of China in 2003 and her PhD degree in Applied Mathematics from Brown University. She held a postdoc position at the University of Texas at Austin. She was also a faculty member at Michigan State University.
